FAQs, Shipping & Returns
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping is calculated based on your location and the items in your order. You will always know the shipping price before you purchase.
Our pieces go out by Royal Mail Tracked 48, at £3.95 per order, but do double check you're happy with your shipping fees before paying.
We aim to ship within two working days of purchase.
Do you have a returns policy?
Yes - orders can be returned to us within 14 days of receipt, as long as they are in the condition in which they were sold.
Customers are responsible for the cost of returning items back to us.
Once the item has been received and checked you will be refunded via the original payment method, minus the original shipping cost.
You can email us to open your return and be sent the return address on studio@shopsecond.co.uk.
Where do you find your pieces?
I hunt high and low for beautiful pieces to bring to Second - at charity shops, car boots and vintage stores across the country.
Why do you stock fast fashion / high street brands?
I think this is a complicated question! You'll often find pieces on Second from high street FFB (fast fashion brand) stores like H&M, ASOS or Uniqlo, as well as the very occasional piece from an UFFB (ultra fast fashion brand) like Primark, Pretty Little Thing, or Boohoo.
When looking for pieces for Second, I try to completely disregard brand labels in both directions. Just because something is 'designer' doesn't mean it's a beautiful piece, and likewise, just because something is from the high street doesn't mean it doesn't hold value.
I focus on the material, cut and form of a piece of clothing, as well as simply just how much I like it! This does mean that if something has a beautiful cut, in a fabric suited to its use, and it happens to come from a FFB or UFFB, so be it.
I did think about whether to take a blanket stance on FFB and UFFBs and not stock them at all - but then, what will happen to the millions of pieces of clothing already in the second-hand market from these brands? What if these pieces have life left in them, and could continue to be loved for years more? Isn't it a better approach to continue to use what is already in the world, rather than banish them all to landfill indiscriminately?
If you have thoughts - I'm all ears.
Can I shop in-person with you?
We'll be honest - IRL is where our heart really is.
Until we find the perfect space though, you can shop Second online (right here) and at a rotating calendar of markets and pop ups - to see where we'll be, head to Instagram.
However, if you're based in East Sussex, and just dying to shop the Second rail in real life, drop me a note and I'd be happy to arrange an in-person visit at our studio by appointment.
Do you sell gift cards?
Not yet, but that's a nice idea! I'll work on it - keep your eyes on Instagram so you know when they're live.
